Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I'm sorry to hear that Lacrystol , when i lock my moms up with their ducklings they have their own space where no one else is. It's all temp till they are around 3 weeks old except for the lil coop that acts as hatching and growing house.

You know, I thought they would need a heating lamp and I have never given them one. There was Six babies total, so I still have four. But no heating lamps at all for these four However, our weather has been quite warm and MAN OH MAN ARE THEY ENJOYING ALL THIS RAIN. lOL, it's ruining my coops but they are having a BALL...

You know they are tougher than we give them credit, my 2 goslings haven't had a heat source since end of their 2nd week. I won't tell someone else to do this but they have been fine and now out in the goose hose with the 2 adults. swimming in the pools and feathering in so good. Tougher than I thought they'd be. Glad you still have the 4. Hows hubs?

I had some leave them at 3 weeks too, if you don't want to see this again then remember this mama next year and not let her sit. But usually around 4 weeks my ducklings are on their own with mom off doing her thing.

It's weird because my mommy would NOT get off those eggs for the life of her. I mean it didn't matter if it was chicken eggs or ducks, she reminding me of a Silkie, very determined, even when they started to pop out, she still would not leave the nest. Finally I had to stop her because her kids were starting to explore and that's when the two got killed. She was on the nest still sitting and the two kids were off playing but never made it back home to her. That's when I started to take them away until all popped out, then we went into a separate coop. I left mommy to sit, collected the kids as they came out and once the last one was done, I moved her and the kids..

But once they went into a separate coop, mommy acted like she didn't want any part of those kids and YET, if you went into the coop. HAHAHA SHE would attack you. I never seen here keep them warm but SHE let you know she was there!!!!

Ducks can sure be fickle.

My muscovies have now decided they don't like laying eggs in their pen. One will, one lays in the back of the pekin pen where it's tough to remove, one laid in the windbreak just on the ground out in the open and someone is now laying under another shed. They're just soooo cute.

One muscovy also goes on what my hubby is calling "walkabout". She vanishes for a couple of days, returns at sunset the second day and wants in the pen, then vanishes the next morning for another 48 hours. There's no way to find her due to the incredible number of hiding places on my lot. So I just let her roam about. We've had bad storms lately and you'd think she would want in the pen, but apparently not.

She's probably building her clutch and will begin to sit once she has the amount of eggs she is happy with, but she will be a sitting duck[pun intended] and you may lose her for good.

Tha'ts quite possible. However, unless I pen her in all the time, she's going to do this. I really don't want to pen her in 24/7. My yard has all kind of hiding places. Hopefully, she'll use them efficiently. We don't have as many predators as in the past which should help. IF I find where she hides the eggs, would it work to move the eggs to a safe location and her with it?

Yes, and also about the feather eating, it can be due to temperature, harsh light, stress or boredom

Treatments are, decreasing amount of light , giving them greens, increasing amount of space, and you know those balls with the bells inside of them , get them maybe two of them

I got my goslings a child's toy that has a ball inside of it I put it in the pool and even my adult goose likes to play with it. be sure what ever you use they can't swallow any small parts. Mine love Romaine lettuce heads too i hang them so they can pull off pieces.
