Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Buck Oakes, Nice to meet you. Where in MS do you live? If you want any new blood we do sell ducks now and again and we have way to many right now. Miss Lydia, I think I know you from another thread when I corrisponded with you a few time when I lived in Arizona. Been on any Serama threads? Or maybe Delouse goose thread? Here is a picture of the top drake here at the RV park. His name is Elvis. He is quite the character. Added one view of the pond the ducks have for their pleasure. As i said duck Heaven!
Wow! Very handsome drake!

What a gorgeous drake and beautiful place. looks like a great place for you all and ducks to live.

Oh it is! Thanks you should see Elvis when he has his crest up! That is why he was named Elvis LOL. Got to get a picture of our other drake Alabaster. I think he is Elvis' brother. They are very close. They both love being the only Muscovy boys now with nearly 15 girls all for them! LOL

Since I am fairly new to muscovy ducks and in charge of keeping the drake population down can anyone tell me how to know early on if a duckling is a drake? I can't go by size because with a open pond and ducks babies of all ages are together. Like in this picture is either one a drake?

I bet they do. lol This is our only Muscovy thread although there are other threads about hatching Muscovy's . And their is a Pekin duck club thread too. and Mallard thread also. There is even a African/Chinese goose thread on the goose thread. So you can visit all over BYC.

Looks like the one on the left maybe long tail feathers and thick legs already. What do you do with extra drakes if I may ask? Actually the one on the right looks kinda drake too but legs don't look as thick as one on the left.

That is my delema. I have so many at different ages but I did think the left one did look drake like.
WE have another pond that a gal and her comunity has that is free of ducks right now. So they are going on that pond. We do sell some and some have gone to freezer camp but not many. I am picking up new eggs now to control some of the population but have about 24 eggs being sat on that I know of. THose little girls can be sneeky and go places to the back woods to make a nest. LOL

Trouble with scovies short of vent sexing, or the odd sexed link colour, size is where it's at. Usually, females get their wing feathers quicker but i wouldn't write that distinction in stone lol

and pics can be so deceiving too. Drakes legs set farther apart under their bodies too have longer tails and ducks are shaped like a football their legs are set close together so when they walk it look like they are going to step on their own feet. but sometimes you can even see this real well until 4-6 weeks old .
