Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Learycow, yeah, we bought a coup from someone with bourbenred hens, and she said that they are very susceptible tk disease, but he still free ranged them with his chickens.

no, they will still get cared for, they will just have to learn to sleep in the floating dog house. They get a scoop a day right now, even my pekin. It would break my heart if my pekin died, so he is staying with us andnvisiting once in a while once they get out there. We have been trapping coons and opposums andi want to set a few mink traps. We have cats...but they dont go out ot the pond, I hope the ducks dont waddle round front. The cats will kill them. Should we wait until they are fully grown till they stay on the pond and just interagate them every once in awhile? That way they can protect themselves better?

I wouldn't put young birds out on a pond and expect them to be able to keep the predators away, actually they may not sleep in the floating house and prefer to sleep along the bank which will really make them sitting ducks. Is your pond too far away from your house that you can train them to come in of a night to a secure house and then let them out in the morning.? Train them by feeding them up by their secure house that way they come in of an evening to eat you close them up and they are safe. If you ducklings are adult size I don't think a cat would mess with one. But there are other considerations like flying preds owls, hawks for one and then under the water is snapping turtles have you set any traps to see if you have those? Ducks at any age cannot protect themselves against any predator they have no way of doing it, even if the swim out onto the pond lots of preds will swim for a duck meal. it does sound idyllic though if only it would work.

I will try. I sure hope its a young duck. Can't keep anymore drakes!

I had to move the nest as the dog house that nene Nd penny were nesting in was sooooo hot. However now that they are moved, the girls will not use the latter going into the coop, so I moved bellatrix and her 9 eggs. So now bellatrix is sitting on 22. However penny is gurggling again as she breathes.

Hi there!!
I`ve been so busy these days that it`s hard to find time to post some pics of my ever growing flock. Though i did found out I can post some pics with my mobile as well, however, that way i can only post one pic at the time.
Well, time or no time (it`s mainly the ducklings that keep me busy...
