My grandpa has been trapping coons, so this is the first night on the pond. All has gone well, and they chose a nice bush to sleep in, right next to the water. There is only 0 or 1 snapping turtles in their.... and we have never seen signs of or caught a mink. Owls would not try to go for a bundle of ducks in a bush, and hawks dont usually grab ducks out of water. Their is a dog outside most of the day and some at night that is always barking. We had a pair of wild mallards and canadian geese previously, with no problem raaising babies and no deaths. We pray that god will watch over and protect them. Their are 5 muscovies, 2 of which are drakes, one aggressive hen that is top in the pecking order. Their is also what we hope is a pair of magpies and not two hens, their is also a grown pekin hen that follows them around.

I know this doesn't fit the conversation but back to the idea of them trying to populate the earth, I let four hens sit and ended up with 44 ducklings. One mother hatched 17 while two mothers sitting on the same nest only hatched 9. I find that pretty funny. Anyway, I guess I am just posting as exhibit #1 for the earlier posts of Muscovies populating the earth.

Pretty sure. The woman at the farm store (who has over 80 birds herself) vent sexed her twice for us. Once when we got her and again when we brought are anconas in at a week old just to make sure.
OK, then. Just looks like a male to me...I remember the other pics you posted, thought it looked like a male.... broad tail. Still, time always tells...

LOL yes they are very bad for wanting to 'take over' it's both an advantage and a disadvantage.
