Reece, I haven't had a duck hatch out eggs for me, but when I have a hen go broody, I mark her eggs and pull any new eggs that are laid in her nest to prevent a staggered hatch. Sometimes the broody will get off an egg that is zipped and the chick dies in the shell, so it makes more sense to to have them all hatch as close together as possible, so when the broody is ready to take them out for a stroll and food and water, they are not leaving any behind to die.

How long do Muskovys take to mature? I was surprised with these 5 ducklings and am wondering if I should sell them now as ducklings or maybe show them in March at Delmarva, that show seems to attract a lot of waterfowl.

By about 8wks they are pretty big, depends on what you mean by mature? if your meaning loosing that baby look.. i have some here that still look young but are fully feathered.. they are now 2.5mths old so look like mini versions of the adults.

Here is a picture of all if them together. Elsa (the drake) is in the middle but here feather is blocked by Kristof.
Do muscovys get drake feathers? If they do Kristof so far doesn't have one.

Muscovy don't have drake feathers they are not mallard derived. I still don't think that is a drake but the forum keeps glitching on me or i;d post pics of my own, search threads till i can lol

They will be 6 1/2 months in March... Probably ready for a show. If I can handle them that long. I have no stream or pond here, the brooder tends to get a bit dirty.

I love your ducks! Really pretty! I think she is a she. She's not that big, but others have said she looks boyish. I will be really sad if she turns out to be a he but time will tell for sure. After I posted I looked up and saw muscovys don't have drake feathers, I didn't think they did, but boy that would be helpful! Lol

This is what someone else said. She (or he) was vent sexed twice so I think she is a she, but could be a he and then he will be dinner! Lol. But her feet touch when standing and aren't far apart or super thick like they say boys are and my Ancona who looks like has a drake feather quacks a lot, so who know. I figure when eggs come I'll know will try to get a good one with te anconas

Kristoff is positively a hen. A muscovy drake would have all the red on his face by now. My is just getting a dark red bill, he is 2 months, and still only has pins on his wings, while all my females have fully feathered wings and pink ish bills.

males will get their curuncles, the red, before they feather out their wings, while girls are opposite. Can you post a pic of her wing feathers fanned out? If they are full feathers, its a girl, if they are small stubs of pin feathers, its a boy.
