I look after them almost every hour to make sure that they have enough food and water. When in the shed, they are not afraid of me, just minding their own business and even mother duck soon stops hissing and behaves normal.
I hope the littlest soon catches up with the rest. My girls are beginning to really hide their eggs from me so i'm thinking someone is seriously thinking of brooding, but I got them all today, I have too many Scovies to let anyone hatch this year. Once my old ones start to go then I'll think about ducklings again. Are you keeping yours or do you sell them?

I hope it does, too. It is strong enough not to fall behind and I had a case that looked more desperate than this, but the last word is not spoken yet. On the pictures you can easily see that the others are way bigger and more developed.

I have enough space to keep at least two of them, but I will have to sell drakes. I always try to have space for some ducklings every year. If I definetely keep some this year, I will not let them breed next.

I wish you good luck with your pre-easter egg search^^

Thanks they are really good at hiding them as you probably know from experience. Yes we had our ducklings last year and I can't have more than I have housing for so we'll have to skip this year. I saw the lil one sounds good that it's keeping up though.

Today was sunny and above freezing temperature so the family had another day outside the shed. You can see that one of them is smaller and still more like a fluff ball while the others have already developed a more "duckish" figure. Mother duck looks after her offspring well and even gave on them which had fallen on its back a push so it would roll back on its belly. Unfortunately I had no camera with me when that happened.

awww they're so cute. I like the small fuzzball!

@ Miss Lydia:

My other females, the Pekin and the Runner don't even try to hide their eggs and drop them somewhere, in- or outside the shed. When they lay in the pen the crows often find them before me.

@ Adorkable:

Little Fuzzball is adorable and I am fascinated that it is so determined to carry on

We sadly suffered our 1st loss the other day. We had a pair of matching blue girls and one of them disappeared during daytime without a trace. The remaining blue girl got very depressed, so we picked up two new girls (white and chocolate) for her today. She was so happy when we took them out of the box. It made our day to get them for her. Here they are... our new trio.

This last April's hatch...seems the hens disappeared and when I checked the nest, they were hatching so I brought them in the house til they were old enough to go outside.
