Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I think it's about 3... either way it can get out of control quick!

I think I am only gonna let mine have a spring clutch. This is my first time going through this. I can tell you I am already exhausted !!! She's just started laying & hasn't even started sitting yet. We shall see, because I fear duck math.

I have already stopped the duck who hatched the clutch in Mar, twice now... and deterred another out of the calf hutch...

. So haw many do they usually lay before they decide to start sitting?

Can pull the eggs and eat them up until they start setting in earnest.
Awesome for baking. People allergic to chicken eggs can usually eat them.
Mark them and pull earlier day's leaving 2-3 or so in there.
Can freeze them just like chicken eggs.

Duck a'la orange is purdy tasty......

Mixing 3 bloodlines so I wanted a big first hatch (maybe not this big).
The farm cats will get to some I'm guessing.
I've got them brooding guinea, chicken, turkey and goose eggs.
Let them super mom somebirdy elses eggs.

(apologies pet people - but there's pets and there's livestock)

I think people have posted pictures on this thread of this cross.
Go back maybe 10 pages and come forward, think there was one then.
Look for Scovy and mule. Forgive me if I'm restating something you all ready know but scovy are a different kind of duck. All other breeds of ducks are mallard based and you can interbreed and the crosses are fertile. Not Scovies.
Any other kind of duck crossed with a scovy produces Mules - sterile offspring. Mule ducks will lay eggs - but they'll never develop. Males will mate, but 99% are sterile.

LOL! Yeah, I did the scovy math. 15 ducks X clutches of 20 = 300 eggs X's 3-4 breeding seasons = OMG!

Think the drakes will get culled down to the best of the best of the best of the best - and penned! Then the girls can roam and lay to thier heart's content and I'll have eating eggs. If I want babies, best girls can have a whirlwind romance in a honeymoon suit with a chosen drake....

I wish I lived out in the country so I can have more chickens and ducks... We live in the city with a very small city lot, I am lucky to have what I have.
