I have one Mallard drake and 3 hens,2 Blue Swedes and 1 black that we have no idea what she is! The swedes came together and the Mallard and the other came together, well he started mating with 1 of the swedes and she ended up with a prolapsed uterus, had to be stitched and caged. Rocket(male)is by himself instead of trying to keep the hens seperate,he is building a nest and pulling out his feathers! The hens are all laying just fine and Ellie is much better, now I have another hen trying to mate with Ellie, climbing aboard especially when they are in the pool! I don't know what to do now! They are all about 1 1/2 yrs. I do know what you are going through Coupe and was hoping you got an answer for your drake!? As for my hens ,well what can I say,as soon as I call her name she stops, she is smart!Do Drakes normaly build and sit on a nest? Theres no eggs, but today i caught him sitting in a nicely formed nest moving hay around him. I know for sure he is a drake and i have 2 hens in with him..the hens are around 6 months and he is 3.
He's sop pretty. I've never had one of my drakes actually sit on a nest but I've seen one go in and look at the eggs laying in one. Maybe he's trying to give the girls a hint, kinda like my rooster does, he goes into the nest box and lays there showing them where to lay their eggs. must be in the water, yup lolHe is 3 years old. And i did mention there are no eggs in the nest..he is just building a nest..very well i might add lmao. He sits in it,moves some hay very gingerly around him, gets up and looks at it then walks around for a bit..then goes back to sit in the nest and move some hay...I also have a Rooster that sits on eggs...maybe its somthing in the water lmao
