How are y'all's drakes with ducklings that are hatched in the flock, or in my case a trio?

How are y'all's drakes with ducklings that are hatched in the flock, or in my case a trio?

I do keep my mama and ducklings separate from my flock including drakes for their first 2-3 weeks, separate by plastic poultry fencing and their own little house for night time protection]. Only because when mama and ducklings were lose with the flock we lost one and we're not sure who did it. I honestly have never seen my drakes be mean towards a duckling but I now play it safe. And ducks can be hateful to others ducklings too.

Mine lays REALLY early. Like around 7:00. Is that normal?

I don't think there's any time that's had for them to be laying... My birds lay at weird times, my duck lays before 10am, and the chickens laid they're eggs around 4pm today!

yeah I know her hiding places now too, but evefy once in a while it's somewhere new. She even laid in the pool one day lol. Sadly I can't free range due to my dogs

My duck likes to crawl under the house to lay eggs, and she also likes plant pots! =]
That's understandable, I'm not allowed dogs right now so they have free rein of the yard!
When we eventually move tho I'll get one as a pup, probably a small dog or a herding breed and teach it to care for the existing animals =]

I spent all day yesterday cleaning and rearranging the nighttime run. Since I down sized my flock by half it seemed like a good time to revamp. It is a 10x10 cement pad dog kennel.

There is a 1/2 acre run with a pond and a kiddie pool attached to the kennel. The extra cages are for the two French Lops that share the pen.

It should work until I can build something more professional looking. Tarps and pallets aren't the most pretty things but very effective. Mainly I need to see how messy three ducks are compared to seven. If it is still bad to keep up with they to will be rehomed like the others.

I'll see how it goes for the first day or two after they leave the nest and then I will decide.
