Question, I had read somewhere that scovies lay early in the morning, which had been true for me. I've gotten 15 eggs in 19 days, so I think that's pretty good. I have checked for the egg as early as 8 am and every day that she has laid it has been in the nest by then. Her eggs are always in the center of the nest, and her nest is like a nice tidy bowl. I'd double checked to make sure there were no eggs buried when I changed out the nest straw last week, so I know she doesn't bury them in there.
But today, I didn't get out to let her out till about 11 am, and there was no egg. Figured today was her break day for the week. When I went to lock her back up at dusk this eve, I noticed there was an egg in the nest. So at some point this afternoon, she went back in and laid it.
So, do they lay at various times normally? or can they hold it in awhile hoping to go find a better spot? When I let her out of the house in the mornings, I let her wander the whole yard while I change water, scoop poo, add food, and fill the pool if needed, then when I need to go do other things inside I put her in her run. Normally she is right on my heels, sticking close to me. Today she made a beeline for the front porch and hung out there while I did everything, so IDK if she thought she saw a good spot over there or what, but I had an appointment and carried her back to the run before I left.
