Muscovy keepers share your pics!

New avatar photo; Padre, our chocolate Muscovy drake, a surprisingly intelligent, gentle and personable bird. When I was a child, my dad would buy ducklings and goslings from a hatchery, raise them for the summer, we'd butcher them in the fall. They were just meat, I never thought I'd be fond of a bird, but I'm having a good time watching this fellow interact with his hens and ducklings.

Aha! There you go! Attachment to a fellow animal! It's all uphill from here. (Join us join us join us it whispers)

Oh, I've always loved horses and dogs, just never thought a bird would be intelligent enough to be interesting. I've always liked reptiles, especially snakes, and spiders.
Still despise cats, though.

Padre is sure a handsome fellow.

Thank you! He's gentle with the hens, protective of the ducklings, and keeps missing out on snacks because he'll call his hens to dinner and stand there wagging his tail while the hens eat everything and leave him nothing. If I didn't throw mice and june bugs right in front of him he'd get no snacks at all.

I am with you on the bird thing, but I love my ducks so far!!! I've never really liked birds or chickens, but ducks are great :) I can't agree with the snake thing though. Yikes, they freak me out how they move and stuff, but I like finding them in te garden.... NOT when my cat brings them in the house though! I have straight up called my husband screaming ad asking him to come home and get the snake. He didn't :( but I was brave and got it. Lol. Not all cats are bad. I'm not a cat person, but I have a pretty awesome cat and the best dog!
