I dont.
I didn't see mines beaks either but they hatched! All safe and healthy!)
Sorry, MuscovyLover, I only just saw your post. It´ll only have problems if the membrane is dried over its nares/nostrils. Keeping the membrane damp should avoid that, as it´d be able to move its head, etc.![]()
I think we talked about this before your ducks are sitting targets on the pond, beside the pond or anywhere outside at night with out a secure house. I'm not wanting to make you feel any worse but those are just the facts. many a predator will swim for a free meal and owls can swoop in a snatch a 2 month old duckling right off the water. I'm sorry for your losses. a goose can not protect your ducks he has no teeth or claws to defend any one all he can do is honk which most likely in the dead of night he wouldn't do. I have 4 geese and they would not make it a week if I left them outside over night. A pond is no guarantee your water fowl are safe.
Well if it´s mal-position you may need to, but a normal hatchling will be able to sort itself out as long as the membrane isn´t dry and hard.ThanksI didn't know that. I assumed they needed to have thier nostrils free so have done that when assisting with malpositions. Now I know for future reference I don't need too

You don't know who has survived ? where are the ones who survived? Don't think a raccoon wouldn't kill your ducks. they kill ducks all the time, stay on here long enough you'll see for yourself. I'm very sorry.they have been outside for the lSt couple weeks, and everything was going great. So we assume that a coyote took them because the neighbors horse wasnt there to scare them off. We now need more ducks to satisfy the order of males to females, and we are currently building and going to finish a dog house and run for the ducks. They will be let out during the day, and penned up at night now.
if however, it was a coyotek we are now wprried about our cats, as we have never had a coyote problem. All we need to do now is kill the nuicance coyote. Coons arent a problem for the ducks, as the ducks have proven it when we caught a coon on the other side of the pond. He decided to go for the easy food.
I really hope that the female magpie Is the survivor, but I dont know yet. And I hope that we still have our solid chocolate and leader female musocvies. Not that I dont care about the others, but these were my three favorites.
