5 lavender mixes from a May hatch from Bhep. I'm thinking 4 drake and 1 hen. The 4 extra males i think they are, are tearing each other's flight feathers out! Mean boys?

OK, little fluffy things:


There are three more with a black duck that´s a first-timer, and is so devoted to her babies, she keeps them really tucked away. I´ve not managed to get a pic of those yet. So I have 8 barred and 5 pied. A couple of the barred have very light tails, so I´m really hoping for a blue/lilac/lavender or whatever.

Alice, here´s a pic of my drake. Notice the huge bodhy out behind the legs. Also, my females. Notice they do have very red faces, but totally different size and shape in the body. Females hiss and raise their crest too. It´s just that they also quack of a sort, but the males definitely don´t. Grab her tail, see what s/he does. Notice the difference in the body shapes. One of my females. Notice pointy tail-end. Another female. A lot of red. In one of the pics, you can see the legs of a gander, which shows how small the duck is in comparison. The drake is about the same size as the ganders.

I have only ever heard Kristof hiss, never any other sound. I might hold off a bit with wishful thinking. I really thought she was a girl until the other day.

I just knew when I saw your name these came from Bhep. they are lovely but you need more ducks lol

Vocals while they are different and drake eventually only get hissing the trouble is i had one female(definitely Female) who always hissed she did nothing else, we actually dubbed her 'hissy' because of it lol

My point here is while voice can be useful they can fool you and it's the only scovie right? even more difficult with vocals.

I see two older hens, one younger one, and 4 young males.

Alice, which of these ducks I posted does Kristof look most like? Do you see the difference between the male and female scovies in that pic?
I think she looks very much like my black duck.
Ducks hiss too, as I said. They tend to quack only when they´re upset about something.

They are, aren´t they? Congrats to the ducks, though, MLyd, not me.
Today we had hail. Quite big, too, and one of the ducks got under a bench with her 3. Another took her 4 back up the hill, 'dodging' the hail stones, poor little souls, until they arrived at their nest. Mum duck wasn´t hanging around, they must have been exhausted!

Just their size makes them look abnormal compared to the ducks of same age... No no no he isn't abnormal at all very handsome actually.
