I have a 25'x50' enclosure that houses 10 sex-link hens which I do not allow out. This same enclosure holds 30+ white Muscovy ducks and 5 Midget White turkeys at night. My 14 year old son (the duck herder) opens the door in the morning and only the turkeys and ducks come out and at or near dark he opens and holds the door open and all the ducks AND turkeys enter for the night. No problem. We have some bamboo poles, but he hasn't used them in months. It really couldn't be any easier for him.
Note: Under no circumstances would I recommend putting ducks in with chickens if the ducks were not fully feathered and grown. Chickens are miniature velociraptors and will kill ducks that aren't feathered out yet.
