The change over of that drake is normal, and something i have seen on many an occasion in both sexes actually, usually the white shows the 2nd year, that is why it's hard to know how a young bird will develop.. the first year they may show little white, the following? bam!

My black solid female now i have had her over a year... she was almost zero white last year and into the spring, now? quite a bit on the wings... this is why i refer to scovies as Chameleons.

I think it would have to be more than 1 fox and same with coyotes it would be hard for them to pick up 3 adult ducks in their mouths and run off. depending on when it happened they may have been food for their babies. sad say but it happens We very seldom see foxes or coyotes ,mink, weasel bob cat etc but we know they are around.

It could have been a mother fox training her babys to hunt.

yes but it could have made several trips for babies and foxes are rarer but one visited my coop little stinker but oh well

Duck update: I went over a little bit ago to clip wings on my ducks. still no sign of spot (the one that disappeared). I caught and clipped Bluebell (yearling) and Mama duck (original). of course they were really traumatized. I didn't clip my drake or my black hen, since she hasn't grown her wing feathers in all the way yet. I went to try to catch the last one, Dark ducky, who is the craziest of them all, and she tore past me, and flew over the fence and out over the Field. I looked for her, but didn't fine her any were. (she is probably hunkered down some were)
I hope she is OK, because it would not be good to lose two ducks all in the same day.

and that would mean I only have four ducks left.

Oh dear, can you try tossing out something they like to eat to lure her back? I am fortunate my ducks despite full flight don't fly off... youngin's often fly quite a bit their first year but by second aren't to into the wings anymore.

Isn't it past baby season though? i know a friend of mine was having a devil of a time with foxes and her birds this past summer they had a den up the road but it's basically winter now(i realize climates differ) most young by now would be pretty sharp at hunting, of coarse if there was a what do they call multiple foxes? herd, flock ,,,

It could be a late litter of kits, which is possible especially down here in the south.

Speaking of chocolate, does anyone know where I can get chocolate muscovy hatching eggs? Just plain chocolate or chocolate ripple. I'd say barred would also be fine but I have no clue how that would act with my ripple drake.

I should have some chocolate ripple and split ripple in the spring. I have a pair of chocolate ripples and a black hen that I will cross with my ripple drake.
