I have a weird nesting question. How small of a space can a scovy hen fit through? I have 3 hens and 1 drake. They were 10-12 weeks old when I got them in October, making them about 9 months old. Mating season is definitely upon us, but I haven't found a single egg from any of them yet. However, I noticed yesterday that it looks like something might be squeezing under the addition of our house. The gap under the boards is only about 3" and it just looks way too small. I don't know where else they could be hiding the eggs though. We are preparing to move to a new farm and so everyone is in a fenced area with no other hiding spaces. Thanks for the advice!
A few years ago I had some that were squeezing underneath the fence of their pen. I had to put bricks around the bottom to keep them in. So I suppose it's possible.

One way to find out is by letting her lay a clutch and then finding her when she goes broody.

Tomorrow I'm going to pull off a couple of the boards and crawl around and see if I can find the eggs. If I do find them, I'm going to pop them in the incubator.

Here's to hoping that there's not a raccoon under there! LoL

They are on the move. Be careful and

you find some eggs.

I have 3 females and a male. One was laying everyday then stopped so I had to take the eggs. She's now laid 2 eggs in the nest and I'm leaving them with her hoping she goes broody

Agree if she stops and you start seeing feathers, then leave them. However if she stops and no feathers then she's not going to sit

My girls were both laying off and on in the same nest for over 2 weeks. I just left them and didn't bother them. She didn't have feathers or anything in the nest and it was still getting in 30s at night once in a while. She didn't even have them in the building. She made her nest right under the pond where they could get wet and little protection. I was just sure it was going to be a failure. Then the last week my drake started digging underneath her with his beak and kicking eggs out when she would get up to eat. So I put the eggs back and gave him the boot and finally at 40 days after she started sitting they started hatching. At day 42 I helped the last one out as he was chirping away but not cracking through the egg. He was malpositioned but very healthy. So I got 12 healthy babies now out of all that.

I forgot to add the she finally took to sitting after a couple of weeks and I knew because she all of a sudden never left the nest but she didn't make a nice nest with feathers until after she decided to sit on them.
