I need help please! I can't break my Muscovy broody...
It's been 4 months since I took her last egg. I took her nesting box/kennel away. I only bring it out at night to sleep in. Bare kennel. No bedding. I put her in an open bottom cage all day for weeks. Went crazy, climbing, flapping around. So, then out in the yard in the mornings. All she does is pace all day by the garage door because she knows her kennel is in there. If I don't remove her in the morning and put the kennel in the garage, she does not come out at all. She stayed in for over a week before I started removing her. It's been a total of 5 months now since started laying and now no eggs, won't leave the box and is obsessed w trying to nest. Won't socialize w the male anymore either. I hate this but I love her! What do I do?
I had one start in April and could not break her no matter what I did so finally gave up she brooded till end of Sept on nothing, didn't even get in a good molt that year. I sure don't know what to tell you. sorry. They are very stubborn once they start.

I thought I'd ask here instead of starting an entirely new thread.

I think all of my muscovy hens are laying 2 eggs a day, since about 3 days ago. I only have 3 hens but have been collecting 5-6 eggs a day. I have no other poultry. This morning I collected four eggs, and then just now when I was putting them away, there were another two "eggs" in the coop, except in this batch, one was a softshelled egg and one with no shell at all, literally just an intact yolk and white. Two of them are over a year old and have laid steadily, the one that's less than a year old just started laying two weeks ago.

They free range during the day (I'm on almost an acre) and then are given a cup of layer feed each (so three cups total) before I lock them away at night (at night so they do their pest control with vigor in the morning). I throw them their eggshells back for even more calcium.

Any idea why I suddenly got the soft shell egg and the no-shell egg? I'm assuming it's from the same bird since the shell-less one was stuck to the soft shell one.

I'm also worried with the two eggs a hen a day issue--I'm worried it's really taxing their bodies and possibly draining their calcium. Should I be concerned?

I love the movie!! It's sooo cheezy. I personally think they should have done it in reverse. The whole movie shoulda been duck world. And I too have broody muscovy. 2 of them on 12 each. I'm so excited!! I'm not really sure their age or if they've hatched before. They seem to know exactly what's going on.

It seems that Ana (SPR) managed to break both my muscovies from being broody lol. She kept stealing their nests till they gave up. I just brought home 45 meaties though. I wonder if one of the girls would turn in to mommy mode if I or them in the brooder? Any ever tried that with a muscovy?

I would be afraid the muscovy mom would take them swimming, plus that's a lot of chicks to sit on.
