I just went out to check on the hatching duckies, and got a picture.

How cute is that?)

Also, brought the 2 other hens off the nests to eat and drink before their eggs start hatching, and guess what? They both have an egg pipping! These little guys want out of their shells early!

Too, too cool! It's clear to me that I won't get any work done today.

Last chook hatch for the year. DH says we have too many chooks as it is. I have 3 other broodies sitting on 1ea fake egg, poor girls.
I have 2 broody Scovy also. One on only 8 eggs and the other on at least 13, last count before she began sitting in earnest.

Heres a pic of what I found in my barn this morning and a pic dad. Virgil. These are my whites and the vast majority of them are sold for food

tara, It's O.K. to sell them for food. Scovies are a good source of high quality lean protien. I talked my DH into getting Scovies by telling him we could use them as a alternatve source of meat. We are going to be practical about them & will use some in place of buying beef. Though DH says that if I keep selling them off we won't have many left for dinner,

. We will have plenty with the way these girls lay.

Besides I want to spread Scovies around as much as possible since there could be a time where we are no longer allowed to transport them across boarders.

troy, if you haven't yet, be sure to cross post in the BST under Other Poultry.

Nope, no scovies yet

Im hoping I might be able to find one at the flea market this saturday, I know a guy who sometimes has ducks with him, and once he had a white and brown ( fawn?) scovie female, so im hoping ill get lucky!

I found a home for my two drakes though

Now my yard feels empty... I recently rehomed four of my juvenile drakes , and with these drakes being gone I only have 9 ducks...
