Love the verdant
landscape! I'd like to visit New Zeland one of these years. Do you have a picture of your drake?

I have been told that the father of those ducklings may be a mallard as people think they look like mules

Our 2 drakes are the pure white one in the pic with 2 of my kids, and the other drake is white with a grey tail - you can only just pick him in the 2nd lot of pics if you look hard enough ..... those pics were taken a couple of years ago when they were still quite young.

Some updated photos

I am so happy that I also can join the group! I begged and begged my hubby to let me have some muscovy's he said "NO" he thinks they are soooo ugly. Then to my surprise he comes home with these guys!! I was the happiest person ever.

you wouldnt possibly have a pic of the young blue drake when he was "half dressed" like the pics of my ducklings on the last page?? I am thinking he looks very similar to them and they may not be mules after all....

Yes, back on pg 28 post 272 you can see him in the first two shots.
Yours don't look like mules. Reading about mules and how they are produced makes me think they are less common than one might think. The hatch/fertility rate is only about 20-30% according to Metzer Farms unless you use AI.
I was reading a research paper on the internet, (should have benchmarked it

) where they are finding that female ducks can "keep fm being fertilized" by the male if they so choose most of the time. It goes into the machanics of the whole thing and is actually quite interesting. I was Googling for genetic info on Muscovies when I came across it.

Congrats, Victorialand!

Hope to see updates on your sweet Scovies.

Victorialand - I hope my husband comes around like yours has. He's the one I need to win over before I can get ducks.

Cheers for that

So my bubbas may not be duds after all <3

Their Mother is black barred so it does make sence if they are going to look like yours when they grow up . I must get a proper pic of the Mamma duck.

Thanks for the welcome. I will post pics as they get there big boy/girl feathers. I love that stage! My hubby acts so tough and man like. On the inside though he is a softy, I was alittle suprised though to see those guys
