X2!They are adorable, Heat!
You're right. I don't EVER EVER EVER EVER see another day of hatching 150+ ducklings !!!!!!!![]()
So you have 15????????? WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL @ they rebel. I am so proud that I practiced good BC over my way. However I do have a lot of drakes but they are so handsome, I can't even send them to freezer camp. Their markings and colorings are so pretty!
About the turkey hatchings. Well............. my first time using an incubator was horrible!!!!!!!!!!!! NONE of them hatched but I think the problem was that I didn't start turning them until 4 days later. I messed up. However, my girls have hatched out about 40 poults. I am down to about having 15 left. I was able to sell just about all of them. I was going to send the males to freezer camp because I wanted to taste some home grown turkeys. I still may do that.
I also hatched 9 keets. I sold 2 and will put the others in the chicken yard. The keets are so skittish. YIKES !!!!
I have hatched out 2 peas but only 1 made it. It will be a solid white peacock. I have 5 pea eggs, 5 turkey eggs and 6 guinea eggs in the incubator. All scheduled to hatch in 2 weeks.
I'm retiring after this.![]()
15 is a drop in the bucket right? we have 5.5 acres but it's mt. land and steep so they only use a small fraction of it and mostly at the house since this is where their home is, But i know what your saying about drakes, i only have 3 at the present one old drake at 9 yrs and my boy i raised last year he is 1yr. and then this first one that hatched this year he is 11 weeks, nothing outstanding in his looks although he is pretty but his personality is great, eats out of my hand and has fallen in love with our next duckling which thank goodness turned out to be a girl she is 7 weeks old. I could never separate them, now our youngest is 3 weeks and thinking girl there too watching leg size mostly, so hopefully we'll not have anymore drakes, our 2 adults get into it at least a couple times a day which i hate fighting. but so far haven't injured each other . 40 poults wow that is awesome, i have no problem with processing extra roos and even ducks if i had too, but I fall in love with them all and it seems to get harder each year. I have to see pics of your babies when they hatch please post. you say your retiring does that mean for this year or for good?oh and thank goodness I don't have a bator. Heavens .I would love some peas but even though we don't have close neighbors I think those across the river from us may draw the line on more noise than my goose makes.
plus i am hoping towards the end of July to add another goose so my gander will have a friend. does it never end? I have thought of guineas but so far it's been fleeting. LOL
I have pips, my Muscovy Duck Faith has 2 eggs and 2 pips, just went and moved her to a better place for hatching, worried about lil ones falling out of the nest and not being able to get to mama. Anyway I had to tell, just hope they both hatch[and they are both girls}![]()
Beautiful!
