Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Miss Lydia he is absolutely gorgeous!!! My 2 yr old Drake and one of my 7 month old Hens vanished one day...no sign of a predator but he has never left the property and I don't think he'd leave his other 6 hens and 7 babies here intentionally. Out of the 50 scovie babies that my girls hatched this summer I only kept one male, he has turned out to be a beautiful fella but not mature yet and the grown hens are all dancing around him and singing to him LOL

teeheee you don't have to ask me twice for pics :) Yes it broke my heart to find Shadow and Bluebelle gone...they were there for breakfast (my grown scovies refuse to sleep in the duck houses, they roost in the big pine trees) and then gone when I went out to visit with them around lunch time. We had a stray female dog show up a couple of months ago, she attacked my Pekin gal Scrappy and took off with 2 of her babies...Between baths in the house, antibiotics and flesh wound powders topped off with lots of greens, eggs and vitamins Scrappy was her old self in a week. Ok here are some pics of this summer's babies :)

below is the little fella I kept (the only male scovie that I kept), he was 24 hours old

and here he is a couple of weeks ago

in the photo below, Willow has her babies on the pond for the first time, notice the lil one in back? When she started bathing it startled him and he actually bounced up in the air out of the water, I caught the shot just as he was landing back in the water LOL

From april to the end of July my girls hatched out a total of 50 babies...44 pure Muscovy and 6 Pekin/Muscovy mix.

It's been a fun and fluffy summer ;-) I wanted to keep them all however there isn't enough room in the duckhouse for me to llive since that's where I'd end up if I kept that many so I kept 8, sold 3 and gave the rest to dear friends.

My girls would probably hatch out that many if I let them, but I don't have dear friends to give mine to. Thats really great that you do. I hope the rest of your flock will be safe.

What fabulous pictures! So you have a pekin too? i am always curious as to whether one could be added to my flock, all i have are 'scovies but am not sure how they would react to another breed.

Well if you got a Pekin duck I'm sure your boys would probably act the same as mine, they'd chase her down and make her one of the family real fast.
