Muscovy mix?!?

He definitely might try, I had a Indian Runner drake mate my Muscovy hen! It would be a good idea to get him some females of his kind because Muscovies communication is different then other ducks!! Also, Happy (almost) New Year!!!
Thank you! Yes, we had planned on finding him some girls of his own kind. Funny how he got to our farm. A neighbor brought him late at night saying he was in their yard acting weird. He thought he was ours because we have all white Muscovys. He had herded the duck to our house and the duck went with him. So I was able to pick him up, which I thought was weird because my Muscovys don't like to be touched much less picked up. Also, he was so light. Anyway, it was late and dark, so I just took him to an enclosure we have close to the house and left taking him back to the flock for the morning. In the morning my husband went out to take him when he shouted, "This is a Peking!" None of my neighbors knows where he came from. So that's how he came to our flock. All our ducks are free to come and go, but he has decided to stay.

That’s awesome!!! He’ll definitely appreciate the hens of his own kind!

Well i have to tell the story of my Muscovy female. Some of you may know this already. My youngest Muscovy is now 9 yrs old. She is pure Muscovy I also have her mama 2 Aunts and her daddy. Well in 2016 I bought Runner and Buff Orpington eggs. I had 3 Muscovy going broody so I split a dozen eggs up between the 3 girls they all hatched. Everything was going along wonderful the girls were great mamas and the ducklings were thriving well at close to 4 weeks old 2 of the mamas decided they were done so Dolly took over all the ducklings. She has never gone back to the Muscovy has slept and hung out with her kids ever since. She wouldn't let the drake mate with her when he got mature until this last year. She would always stand up to him and he'd back off but one day I caught them in the pool together. So she has given up identifying as a Muscovy and is now full fledged Runner and I guess Buff since the 2 Buffs are in this flock too. She doesn't hang out with the Muscovy at all and rarely does the Muscovy drake mate with her since she is always with the other ducks. So I said all of that to say this, [They can communicate.] lol

Wow!! That’s awesome! Ok, I was told that Muscovies can’t communicate with other ducks, but it’s really awesome to know that they can!!! Thank you sharing!!

I see that alot on here but they can. Now my Muscovy drake has never had any interest in the Runners or Buffs, he might if he didn't have his own females. What's funny one of my youngest Runners she is 2.5 yrs old I guess sexually matured quicker than the other female and would flatten herself out for My Muscovy drake and even my gander neither of them took her up on her offer, But it wasn't because she didn't try. lol he’d just look at her like she was nuts.

I’m sorry you lost your little duckling it sure was precious. Does it’s sibling look like Muscovy mix?

Lol that’s funny! My Muscovy drake would chase my female Runners and Ancona hens to mate with, even when he had his own girls!

Thank you, he definitely was a sweet duckling… I really wish he made it because I think he would have been an amazing duck! His sister was from a different egg, so they were technically just hatch mates. She turned out to be a Runner Ancona mix!

That is pretty darn cool!

I have seen them struggle with communication at first. This year I got 3 new Saxony, and they learned to do the Muscovy dances and talk Muscovy. They taught it to our other Saxony, and now the dynamics in our flock changed a lot. I wish I got a video, because they don't seem to dance any more.
