All of our muscovy hens (5) started laying with a bang this season at about the same time. Each hatched a brood and the youngest ducks are about 9 weeks old. (We sold all but my favorite 7.) We have one hen that laid since then, but I collected the eggs for eating. However, other than that, no eggs. Could the triple-digit temperatures we have been having have kept them from laying? I feed scratch as a treat and they free range. We keep two kiddie pools for them, in addition to multiple waterers. They all appear healthy and are a healthy weight. Nothing has really changed. Any suggestions?

ETA: The oldest one is about 2 yrs old and she has actually laid three broods since November. However, the others are Spring babies from last year (so about 1 1/2 years old) and have each laid one clutch.

They are seasonal layers and I think here (alabama) a spring and late summer/early fall clutch should be expected. I just moved up from Florida and there the feral muscovy only hatched babies in spring.
If you are really wanting to optimize laying you would probably need to completely regulate their environment.
The recent heat here was unbearable and from the people I've talked to, all of their birds stopped/drastically reduced laying.

They should pick up again maybe late summer? I'm hoping to get a cluch or two this year. My scovies are about 4 months old now so I'm hoping for fall.

Ok, that is what I will hope for. We have had one or two in previous years, but I have never paid attention to laying patterns. Thank you, jdwyntr!
