Hey there,
I have searched through the other posts about beak growths and just didn't see anything similar to what we are facing - so I'm posting here. Late this spring we purchased 3 Cuckoo Maran pullets from our local feed store. One of these pullets has developed a strange growth on her beak right between her "nostrils". At first I thought she had injured her beak and actually broken that bit between them, but she seemed fine - eating and drinking and hanging out with her "litter mates". As time has gone on I've tried to get a better look at it (all 3 of these new pullets are very skittish and not at all welcoming of our attention, unlike our older laying girls) and I finally got the pullet in question cornered and was able to snap a picture (albeit not the best photo). When I looked at the picture I saw that what I thought was a broken beak is actually a mushroom habitat.....???! Has anyone else seen something like this? Or know what this is? It seems to me from looking through other posts that weird beak things might be a Maran breed trait....?
