Must catch suspicious goose

She's suspicious of me, she has a piece of monofilament around her foot, and I am an utter tyro. How do I catch this goose?? I can get close enough to the gander to touch him, but the goose had to be chased back into the yard with a broomstick once and thinks I'm probably the devil (she's been warming up slowly but we're a long way away from really friendly).

It's just me, I don't have anyone to help right now, and especially no one with any goose knowledge. Any hints?

It doesn't look like it has tightened on her foot enough to do damage but I need to deal with this before that happens.

I see that the line has become tangled around both her feet and then she managed to untangle, so my fears have become more tangible & immediate. They *will* taunt the little dog and then run away, and she could really get herself hurt if the monofilament was around both feet at the time.

do you know of anyone with a net that maybe you can catch it that way? If not, maybe call the fire dept. and ask for thier help.

Long handled poultry net, or type of big strong net wildlife types use to catch raptors. I captured a goose with an injured wing by throwing a large blanket over it, then pouncing on it before it could scoot out. The net needs to be sneaked along the ground, until you are close enough to flip it over the bird. If you come at it with the net up in the air- they see it clearly and run away.

You also ideally need more than one person--- the goose's wings can hurt you if you are not careful. They can bruise you badly, or jam/sprain/break small bones. You need a person to control the goose wings and neck/head, and one to deal with the feet and string.

Aaaaaand... the goose managed to free herself from the monofilament while I was futzing around. Now all I have to do is comb the yard for it so neither of them gets into it again.

There's a lot of trash that finds its way into my yard, and a lot in the far corners left from previous tenants. Trash patrols must be stepped up! The geese can be allowed to help but they can't go picking it up by themselves...
