Good for you! I think more and more people are starting to raise chickens and laws are starting to change in our favor too. Some people just need to learn to mind their own business. Too bad that person who called in a complaint can't be charged for an unnecessary check on someone who is doing things by the law.

I bet it's supposed to be 100 feet from any property line...not just from the nearest neighbor? It takes a very large lot to be 100 feet from all property lines.

Sorry you are going through this. I would call whatever number is on the notice and talk to them about it.

in our county its 75 ft from the nearest property lin and ours is directly on the line but the people who live right throught the woods say they dont mind one bit so we dnt have any problems and our county councilman fixed it with whoever i suggest giving yours a call thats what they are there for

I had chickens in a small lot at one point (thank the heavens I have a real yard now lol). I just landscaped heavily around my coop and pen. Lavender makes a nice hedge with a pleasant smell. I have gladiolus (sp?) growing around my duck pen. You'd be surprised what gardening will hide. I'm a wee bit over the 'legal' limit on dogs, too. Nobody knows.

Just keep them clean, offer fresh eggs and compost to your neighbors, print up a copy of the ordanance and get a written statement from your 'good' neighbor showing they are ok with the distance issue.
It can be done.
Shoot, I snuck a full grown Suffolk ewe in my backyard in the city as a teen. Amazing what a good fence covered with rosebushes can do.

Best wishes.
edited: where's my spell check - oops duck is spelled with a 'u', not an 'i' Is there an embarrassed smilie?

thanks every one we are going to do all we can to keep the chicken what i looked up about the laws it just have to be 100ft from building a person lives in. and i can move the coop to 100ft to make the people who live two house down happy. we called the place that left the note and we couldn't get of officer 680 but we did talked to someone who said we can keep them if we move them back. it just makes me so mad that they wouldn't just come by and talk like i said the people who live near it don't care they like getting the eggs and all. if we can't keep the chickens we may move out to the country like we want to because i don't want to live near people who are so rude and can't come talk to me 1st so we are going to do all we can to keep them but till then keep the coop up and put bunnies or something very loud out there jus t so they still have to look at

i don't want to live near people who are so rude and can't come talk to me 1st

those are my sentiments exactly. there's nothing wrong with talking to a neighbor, and I'll never understand why more people just don't air their grievances with their neighbors before bringing officials into it.

If the house behind you is still for sale I bet it was a realtor that tattled on you. They do that to get rid of anything they think will mess up a sale.

We live on rural acreage and a person who moved in last year immediately started complaining about everyones animals. She said they were all noisy and smelled. Why in the world did she move to rural property where everyone has livestock if she doesn't like animals?

you guys are so right we also thought it may have been the realtor too but nothing going to help sell that house the people who lived in where very old and had to move so they could get 24 hour help and that was a year ago so they kids where the ones who were going to take care of but didn't i mowed there yard and all but today the people 2 house down keep looking at us so i am betting it was them!!But i do have great news we talked to officer 680 called and said we can keep the chickens if we move it as long as we don't have any rooster and we don't he said he liked or set up it just someone around us did not so to be on the safe side just move out of there view and put it 100ft away and if they ever call up again there will be nothing they can do. he was really nice and like people having chickens and said the law is changing all the time so more people can keep chickens. he was so nice and even said he wasn't even going to come by to see if we had moved it or not Thank the Lord for that but i think i am going to keep my gals inside for a bit until we move the coop do you guys think that a good idea thanks again for all your kinda words
