Must-Have Breeds for a Beautiful Unique Flock?

I've gotten the Rainbow Layers from Ideal and had a great mix. If you mention that you don't mind the light breeds, they'll throw some wild ones in there. I got a Golden Campine and some Blue Andalusians - one blue, 3 black, all very pretty.

Sablepoots/booted bantams are really cool!

Ya'll did not disappoint!!

It was so hard picking....I had to make sure that what I wanted was ALL available at the same time, so every bird I chose I'd have to try to checkout to see if it would be able to ship together or not. Then I had to go back and find another one and do the whole thing again! :barnie

In the end, I didn't get everything I wanted but I did get A MILLION AMAZING CHICKIES!!!! :celebrate

Okay, not a million...13. Twelve different breeds! :yaI'm such a crazy chicken lady!!!!

Definitely get a couple of marans--black copper, blue birchen or blue copper--dark brown eggs look great in the egg carton and the ones I've had are very friendly.

Maybe also appenzeller spitzhauben, speckled sussex, swedish flower hens and isbars. I have a bielefelder--they're supposed to be an 'Uber chicken' because they lay large eggs and they're auto-sexing, but she's a big jerkhead. She's beautiful, but still... Just my experience.

I wanted a bunch of Marans but all they had available were Cuckoo so I got one of those and I also got a Welsummer (my original two wellsummer pullets were neither pullets nor Welsummer it seems) and a Barnevelder!

I just checked out the Bielefelder and they have such cool colouring!!! Especially the roosters...wow!

So many awesome chickens I'll have to get next time....haha :lau How many chickens is too many?? 500 right?
