Must See Documentaries

I will have to check that out, I have seen Who Killed the Electric Car & Super Size me - your right they should be on the list

As well as:
Why We Make War
Crude Awakenings
McLibel was OK

Think out of all of them The Corporation was my favorite, based on a couple of books, forget what they are called though. One of the major people involved is a Corporate lawyer so it feels more "balanced" not saying it is just "feels".

What was the one dlhunicorn posted about Monsanto? The one that got pulled off You Tube something about "American will never see" or some such....

I am a documentary freaker. It is mostly what I watch when it comes to films.

You are right, Enron and SuperSize Me are great! I really like music documentaries like Be Here To Love Me about Townes Van Zandt and The Devil And Daniel Johnston about Daniel Johnston. Those are both about genius musicians with a reputation for mental illness. I also have liked Jandek On Corwood about obscure abstract musician Jandek. It is kind of spooky, actually. Other good ones are about punks: End of the Century, The Story of the Ramones, The Filth and the Fury (about the Sex Pistols), and Don't Look Back (about Bob Dylan). Dylan is the ultimate punk!

The best non-music documentary is Crumb , IMHO. Brilliant!

Now that sounds interesting!

I really liked the Coorporation, but tended to get pretty upset when watching it. Although I think it is very educational. There were a lot of well known speakers in it, Noam Chompsky being one of them. He has written tons of books about the Western way of life.

Honestly, I don't know why movies like "the Corporation" surprise people! Corporations are like sharks.... they live solely to keep themselves alive and they cannot and do not plan for the future, the well being of other sharks, or the ocean. Since most corps went to quarterly earnings statements they have become even worse; as they are pressured by investors to produce profit each and every quarter when they should be doing long term planning ad capital reinvestment......

And now most multi-national corporations are sharks without keepers. They can (and do) manipulate governments and simply move their corporate headquarters to the country that treats them the most leniently. Who do they answer to? So now you have large organizations, beholden to no one, whose entire existence is to profit at all cost!!

A shark that doesn't even need to stay in the pool.

There's one about women and girls and body image lies portrayed by the media. I think it's called "Killing Us Softly," but I could be confusing the title with something else.

My husband and I talk about this a lot, seeing as how we have a daughter. I wasnt "comfortable" in my own body until I was 32. I am slightly afraid for my daughter. Especially since she sees me on the treadmill constantly since my heart attack. I dont want her thinking it is because "mommy wants to be coke thin"
Especially since it is "Mommy wants to be around to watch her grow up"
