I'm too hungry to kid, Tempest thought. She leaped to one side and kicked up her heels, all in sheer fun. Breaking into a trot, she called back. "Keep up!"

"A garden?" Tempest looked puzzled. Well-tended gardens were usually overrun with those...small two-legged things. "Is it safe?"

After loping for miles, Wildfire finally decided to stop for a while.

Tempest slowed to a walk, peeking out of the woods cautiously. Convinced it was safe, she emerged from hiding and approached a small tree, nibbling hungrily on some crab apples.

Tempest picked her head up when she heard Jake. She gave him a brief once-over, flicked her tail and resumed eating. "Sure. Why not?"
