Mustard in Egg

I don't know if you can get it in USA, but here we can get shaving soap in a tube. It's like a thick paste. I guess shaving gell would work and so would liquid soap if you mixed it into a paste with something like flour to make it thick and gloopy so it doesn't just run out the hole.

Good luck, I know it really stinks when you put so much effort into the little beggars and get attached to them and then they just seem to think up ways to make you crazy.... a bit like kids really!

That is such a drag, norcal - I'm hoping that the soap trick will work for you!

Our hens haven't started laying yet - I hope they don't devour their eggs!

On another note, is there some sort of vitamin/nutritional deficiency that may lead hens to eat their own eggs? Just a thought...

I believe it's more of a boredom thing, but once they start it's hard to get them to stop. Like with my cochins, once they were in a much bigger pen they just quit eating them. They had nothing better to do in the little cage apparently.

well i have found 2 ate eggs but i think it might be a rat doing it as i've seen them in the coop before (before i find the eggs the chickens fly out squawking like something is in there and when i get out there all i find is a ate egg)

i have never seen any of my 18 hens peck at the eggs.

i do find some wet nests but then again i know i have 2 that lay shell-less eggs.

so i'm going to try to shoot the rat and see how it goes from there.

if it is egg eating i'm going to put a cloth or something in front of the nests boxes so they cant see the eggs as well and put some golf balls in there.

maybe i'll try something like a vinegar egg (like whit vinegar the really strong stuff)

That's how my egg eater started...once she figured out that what comes out of her butt tasted that good, the whole-egg eating started, and hasn't stopped since...
...I too have to start attempting to break her of this, as my youngsters are about to start laying, and I don't want them to learn anything from her, and when I told my son it might be time to eat her, he started crying and asked if we could "teach" her to stop...dammit! It would be so much easier to just eat her and be done with it!! Oh well...here we go....

My friend said try WASABI!!!!
This stuff burns like heck! I got some on a cut, and it burned for 3 hours!

Wasabi is HOT and Spicy! I didn't like it one bit! Good idea! Anyone wants to try one on their egg eaters?

Okay, I'm going to try soap first, then wasabi (yes, I actually have some paste). I haven't found any more eggs yet, eaten or not.

I sat down there and watched the hen (whom I think is laying, 'cause she's got all that weird behavior), and I moved her to the nesting box 10 times, she wouldn't take a hint though. I think I scared her out of laying yesterday.

Oh well. Hopefully it'll all work out.

And shell-less egg that happens man i didn't know that, will the chicken always lay that way if that is how they start or could you get them some to fix that?
