Mutt Chickens and Combining Breed Names

Quote:
two words
Partridge + grey = Prey
+
Pendensca + california = Densfornia
Prey Densfornia

Tha sounds like some dire disease! Or else the scientific name of some wild animal.

I am so happy to find this thread!! I just filled up my incubator with mutt eggs and cannot wait to see what hatches and try to figure out what kind of crosses I have! We have a lot of different breeds of hens and our roosters include polish, silkie, EE, RIR, Wyandotte and Lakenvelder along with a white roo I think may be a leghorn? not sure of his exact breed lol. I am sad to only have one tiny silkie hen though... plenty of (10!!) silkie roos though!

We are going to have to break down and cull a few of them after I rehome a few

I ran into an add on Craigs List this fall for someone selling " Barrock Obramas." You could get pretty political with that hybrid.

I was just going to hit "like", but then remembered I'm not on Facebook

I wanted to share my mutts, I really like them, and I think they are pretty.

But first, I will get my political issues out of the way (please skip to next paragraph for political free content). Excess mutt chickens can be used as food for meat eating animals (human or otherwise), mutt dogs frequently just end up homeless, starving, and/or diseased (i.e. in pain). As a rescue volunteer, I cannot feel comfortable with humans who knowingly breed without thought to what is going to happen to the second or third generation of the mutts they create. On the other hand, genetic defects (dysplasia, et al) are recessive, and are not likely to effect the lives of cross bred dogs. I have a chaussie (chow/aussie mix) and a showing Australian shepherd - the chaussie is a smarter dog (in spite of being abused for his first 4 months of life. BOO! to those humans)

Anywho....

This is Cinderella and Friendly (who is, ironically, not friendly at all), the girl is a Black Copper Marans crossed with ameraucana, and the boy is a Blue Copper Marans crossed with an "easter egger" If they had better personalities, I would probably try to get a second generation out of them to see if the babies turned out as pretty

So maybe a maranscauna and a measter egger?

Well, that photo kind of stinks and the FBCM is in the way, but you get the idea - i wasn't wearing my chicken boots, and didn't want to get in the run.
