Mutt Chickens and Combining Breed Names

If you are anti-mutt or anti-crossbreeding, this is probably not the thread for you. This is a FUN thread for people who ENJOY and love their cross-breed mutt chickens.

We are still waiting for our "Spilkies" to hatch. They should hatch today or tomorrow (DH and I have a disagreement about when we set them, but I think this is day 20, he thinks it's day 21 heheeh).

I have 5 mutts and 8 silkies. I've learned that I love mutts! Their colors are so neat and they are so friendly

My mutts all came from a male (poor quality I think) SLW and the females are (I THINK) white leghorns, delaware, RIRs and a barred rock.
So I think my head roo is a Bardotte

My head hen is a mystery to me actually. She is red like the RIRs but has light neck marks like the delaware does. I'll call her my Red Deladotte

The 3 younger ones are a redotte, a Dirty Wynhorn and a Creamy Wynhorn

That was fun. I want more!!

What are Spilkies? I have a mutt chickie who's 1 1/2 week old. The dad is that mutt I posted earlier and I have no idea what the mom is. I was thinking SLW from the egg but this chick has white, black, and a light brown growing in his/her's feathers. I hope it's a pullet. Do post pictures of your Spilkies!

I've decided to raise mutts too instead of replacing my flock every couple of years and getting pure bloods. And I'm so excited to see what their baby's will look like.

The Rooster is a Black Jersey Giant

Possible moms
Black Jersey Giant
Buff Orpington
3 Production Reds
Delaware
2 Easter Eggers

Will have to post pictures when I get babies but that won't be for a long time. Building incubator now.

These are my mutts, born Christmas day. Their father is a black sex link (so basically a mutt too) and the hen is a buff brahma. Both bantams. I can't wait to see how these little guys end up!

I think the SLW is the mom. All your birds are quite lovely.

A spilkie is the name my husband came up with to give to the offspring that result from our silkie hen being covered by a white faced black Spanish rooster. Spanish + silkie = "spilkie". Hehehe... I thought it was pretty clever, as well, so we are stickin' with it.
