Mutt Eggs

Not an expert, so other opinions trump mine.

But I think I would have a few interesting thoughts for you.

At my local farm supply store, ALL the chicks disappeared really fast after they got them because of COVID19 making more people want to be less dependent on the store. The other farm supply stores and Cal Ranch right now lost their egg layer chicks really fast also. That's over 3 different places I went that all had supply issues, really soon after getting them.

Because my other relatives were involved in agriculture awhile I already have been in those stores a few times, though admittedly not as much as others. I do feel pretty safe in saying they normally don't sell them out that fast.

However, its also true that the top dollar will be given to the ones with established traits people want, and specific species.

I'm hypothesizing, based on these other ideas that you could sell them pretty well but will probably have to put a lower price than the others.

The point is that it doesn't always have to stay that way. Getting the lower end price doesn't mean you can't get a higher price later after re-arranging your affairs and pens.

But I did hear the farm supply store saying that it was one particular guy that took most of their chicks. So I think that it would be unethical if you let only one buyer take everything. Right now with our economic troubles you could look for a way to spread them around to more than one person.

I'd encourage relatives to do stuff like this also but not to be hoarders and selfish.

Poultry are really interesting in that you have that huge advantage where they don't take up much space. And they had a role in preventing hunger in the great depression.

You could list them as fertile barnyard mixed breeds, listing the rooster’s breed as well as the breeds of hens. Many people like to hatch different breeds for egg color and such. Good luck and be well! ❤
I’ve sold quite a few - I like to stress that every chick will be a little different which is fun for a backyard flock - I love to have different chickens that the kids can name and I can tell who’s laying and who’s not by the shade/colour of egg.
