My 1 week an 2 day old duckling has a spot on its back bottom

He has been eating normaly and poos completely fine he’s had it since he’s hatched he scratches it at times but it’s more of cleaning it I’m not completely worried as he doesn’t fuss over it. It’s my first time with ducks an just not sure on what it is excactly?

It’s hard like a spot more then anything with for on top that’s a white color.

That is the preening gland. Ducks rub their bills against it and spread the oil it produces around on their feathers to make them waterproof. Totally normal.

Is this your only duck? Sorry I can't remember from any other posts.

Yes it is we incubated 9 eggs only got him he’s a lucky one I guess but we’re incubating another 9 and hoping we’ll get another

Okay, good. You have him with a mirror and stuffed toy for the time being? That would be my main concern, since they need other duckies.

I’ve got a stufffed teddie but haven’t got a small mirror but I do go and check up on him a lot I’m just hoping that we get another from this incubater
