after my whole last hatch died in the bator while i was waiting for them to dry. i am wondering if that happens again on wenesday can i take wet chicks and put them into the brooder to dry????my chicks always came out nice and dry when i had my sportsman but dont think my forced air hova will dry them....

I go against the grain a lot on here, with wet chicks. The only way I WONT put wet chicks in the brooder is if I already have older chicks in teh brooder...which in that case the older chicks will pick on the weak wet ones. If the brooder is empty I put them right in and under the heat lamp they dry up fast!

The few times I used my hova for hatching quail, the only way they would dry is to put them in the brooder. Just be sure that there are no drafts in the room, and that the brooder is at the correct temp. You shouldn't have any problems.

I, too, move my chicks to the brooder before they dry. After 14 hours of waiting, I figured they would probably be pretty hungry. Now I just wait until they're done and the last one can walk and then move them all over as quickly as I can.

I agree with above...I wait till they are walking well, and when I don't see any new pips, I rush in and move them to the brooder. Then add a wet sponge to the bator to bump that humidity back up, and go on from there.
