My 1st time being questioned by the police...rant!

around here we have a very big problem with Meth Labs and Pot farms. a month ago they arrested 21 people within a 5 mile radius of the house. at one point the sheriff told us they suspect one in FOUR homes in our are was a lab. 25 secluded acres with a shed would be prime drug real estate around here. I would seriously worry about the drunk idiot harming your horses. our neighbors had a guy renting from them that got drunk climbed my fence ( has warning signs on it) got on my mare and was promptly thrown back over the fence in to a pile of concrete. he called drunk threatening to sue. thankfully he is no longer renting there.

Acually its a good thing you found out how crazy he is before you put the horses there. It could have turned into a real tragedy with horses being harmed.

Im super glad that they didnt end up moving...we had plans to move them next weekend. Now Im just imagining I would have gone up there to find them all shot or somthing one morning.

We called a hotline and reported him for elder abuse. My mom is a CNA and as soon as she came home thats what she said, elder abuse. Even the cop who talked to my aunt said he thought something fishy was going on with that relationship.

I will also be giving the local conservation officer a call, lucky me there is one that lives right down the road. We are thinking that he is either hunting out of season up there or is growing dope. Why else would he care so much about some people he dosnt even know going on property he dosnt even own?

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement and advice.

I would absolutely not try to get that pasture. Your horses will not be safe up there. Too secluded and too much shooting and one too many drunks. Don't do it! Your horses will get shot and likely die before you can get there, see them and get a vet way out there.

There are a great many things one has to be sure of when renting a pasture for horses - weeds that are bad for horses, poisonous trees(blank walnut, black locust, many others), people dumping debris or lawn clippings in them, condition of the fence and gates, proximity to fire station hydrants, vulnerability to flooding, a jillian things.

As far as 'elder abuse', sorry, that is not elder abuse.

It could be considered assault, possibly. Depends on more details of what happened. But say it was favorable - a drunken public nuisance, assault, threats to your property, yes. Go for that if you can.

If he took a step off his property, the landowner would have him in a number of counts.

However, out in the country, we don't usually call the cops on our neighbors. If we have a problem we try to work it out privately.

This one, however, won't be worked out privately, but it won't be worked out soon. The guy is a danger to himself, his family and his neighbors. However, they generally kill themselves driving or operating machinery while drunk.

The law generally doesn't have much it can do except arrest the guy over and over for public drunkenness, assault (low grade) etc.

I was in court once and saw a guy who had been arrested and convicted 80 times for that in the prior 18 months. What did the judge do? Gave him another drunk and disorderly charge, a couple more days in jail.

Now he's been arrested and convicted 81 times.

Ohhhh well.

Now you know why it was listed for rent really cheap.

Honestly, I feel bad for the landlord in that his guy intimidated him into not renting the pasture. But, I seriously wouldn't want to put my horses there while that guy is around.

Have you ever talked to the neighbor again? I wonder why he was so pleasant to you and not your aunt, unless he was sober when he talked to you.

Wow.

Especially the part where the aunt and uncle, after being confronted at 10 Am by a drunken, violent man, take their kids back for another round!!

Good plan! I mean, it's not like people shoot at strangers, kids, families for no reason, right? That just never happens....

Idiotic.
