My 2 day old Pekin was born with a deformed leg. Is there anything I can do to fix it? 😢

Hello everyone!

One of our new baby Pekin ducklings was born with an odd deformity of her right leg. It seems as though the joint is double the size of the left joint, and the leg goes outward and she can’t stand upright on it because it turns out.
Is there anything I can do?
I’m keeping her separated from the 9 others with just one sibling with her, because she was getting trampled!
I’m very worried about her.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! 💗

It sounds like a slipped tendon. I would make sure that it is getting a balanced feed for ducks and also supplement niacin with B complex tablets 1/2 daily. Here is a good video to show stretching of the hock tendon, and hopefully others may help with splinting once the tendon is back in place.

Thank you so much!
I’ve been giving her NutraDrench and doing the water therapy and massage but nothing is working and the poor thing can barely get around!
I wish I could fix it. 😢

Sorry that nothing is helping your duck. I would google some articles and videos on fixing a slipped tendon in chickens or ducks. There is plenty information out there. But many times nothing will correct it, and she may need extra care to survive. The sooner it is attempted, the better the chances of success.

That’s exactly what I was just doing! Lol!
I’m scouring the internet and I’m thinking about putting a brace on her leg. I can’t afford an avian vet and I’m very worried about her.
We love our ducks and take excellent care of them. We’ve had 2 with scoliosis and they lived for years and currently have one with wry neck, it’s hard to see because it’s heartbreaking ❤️‍🩹
I’m currently looking for a video on how to make a splint because the physical therapy is just not enough.
