Ours do fine even though their beaks are trimmed. They eat, drink, and frolic normally.

You will love your red sex-links, I love mine. They are very sweet birds. My girls are also debeaked. I think its awful that they debeak them. But mine don't seem to be suffering from it. They are fat and happy just like the rest of the flock!

They don't look debeaked too bad though. Not RIR for sure. Maybe some sort of production red. Just saying I've seen WAY worse debeaking then that. Good luck with them. Looks like their beak will grow back shortly. Probably the best layers you'll ever have because of their breeding, so I'm told with these kinds of birds.

i have a red sex link that just started laying bout a month ago. Yours look pretty young i'd say 12 weeks. may-be less. Expect eggs round late-october early-november. I have a black sex link that should start bout that time.

I'm not sure on the age. They look a bit younger than ours were when we got them at 17 weeks.

Ours started laying at 20 weeks on the dot. We just recently started getting an egg a day from all 8. Four days in a row now we've gotten 8. Lots of personality.

In terms of having our cats around them I was a bit worried at first. I slowly introduced them to each other. The cats are more afraid of the chickens than anything else. The cat in the earlier picture is the only one that really likes spending time around the chickens. It is fun to watch them interact with each other.
