My 2 year old chicken stopped laying 6 months ago...

My hen is and has always been a temperamental ladie and it occurred to me that I haven't gotten an egg from her in over 6 months, around the time she was introduced to a new rooster. Could her mood towards the rooster be what's preventing her from laying eggs?

She probably quit laying to molt last fall and hasn't resumed again. What breed is she and what are you feeding them? Sometimes they need a higher protein ration to molt efficiently, as well as resume laying. And if your in a colder climate energy will be diverted to staying warm. I recommend a 18-24% protein in their ration.

She is a faverolle, nicknamed Finicky Fina. She has a layer feed with added worms. I tried a higher protein feed last molt and she wouldn't touch it. Currently she seems to be done molting. Our temps aren't very extreme, we live in California. Maybe feeding her another source of protein? Ill try eggs in the morning.Thank you

My faverolle haven't resumed laying either yet. Most will start up again by March with the increasing light and approach of spring. You should notice her comb getting red and enlarging before, and they tend to become more vocal as they get close to resuming.

It was worrying me because all my other favs have finished their molt awhile ago and have been laying for a few months now, they are my winter crew, but Fina hasn't jumped on that wagon and gets all up in my roosters face when he gets close to her and she with fly up onto a roost to get away from him. Maybe March is her time too. I'll check her comb when the light is out.

Comb is definately red and saw the rooster finally tag her today, so maybe she's back on the bandwagon. Crossing fingers.
