my 3 year old is much darker than the rest of us..

Some people just don't have a lick of sense....and deserve to be
treated as such.

Make them remember you forever.

Really stupid questions deserve really stupid respones such as...

"OH MY GOD! You mean one of my kids is dark skinned! Oh MY GOD!
Tell me which it is? I'm color-blind. I didn't know. Which one is it? What am
I gonna do now with a child that looks like THAT? How am I going to explain
this to my husband? You've got to help me! Please help me.

or lines such as,

"THAT explains why he likes chittling's so much.

Lines like that leave the questioner wondering which way to run. And nowhere
to go.

.................................
It makes me no difference the color of a persons skin. I think it's pretty neat that
we all look a little different.

mom'sfolly :

Eye color genes are more complicated than blue and brown. If only a single pair of genes were involved there would be only two human eye colors. Many of the genes are additive, or influence other genes. Some people have clear golden brown eyes, some dark brown, some muddy greenish brown, obviously they are not all the same with the same genetics. The same with blue eyes, everything from pale to navy blue is out there.

This chart is interesting:

my second daughter has blue eyes except for one has a spot of brown in her iris

Had friends growing up -- they had adopted some of their kids and others were biological. When someone asked them which ones were adopted, the dad would get a puzzled look, think for a minute, and then say, "You know, I don't remember!"

I love you all! so many wonderful replies to the idiots out there! Sweet!

ps. I was born red-headed to a family that, well, wasn't. I grew out of it.

Or you could say, " Junior College XYZ has genetics course 101 opening soon, I could get you a brochure". Truly though, a blank stare and shake of the head is more appropriate. Your kids will know that looking different is a good thing if you teach them.

Our niece has twin boys. She is of Swedish descent, her husband is Hispanic. One boy is white, blond, and likes everything in place. His brother is dark, black hair, and wants to race cars. If you see the boys interact, you know they are twins.

My ex was of French/Irish heritage. With curly black hair (he once had me apply a hair relaxer-lol) and olive skin he would often have people speaking Spanish to him because they thought he was Mexican.

That old saying "you can't judge a book by its cover" is true. You can certainly judge some people by their stupidity.

Children that are loved can deal with the bad stuff.
Best Wishes,
Margie
