my 3 year old is much darker than the rest of us..

she's pretty! Looks like my kids. but I don't think she is that dark at all! she is pretty though.
Funny is all my kids got my dark eyes and dark hair, though 2 are VERY white. the rest are dark like me, looks like they've been tanning

People used to ask my mom if my sister was adopted because she had very dark hair and brown eyes and the rest of us have blonde hair and blue eyes. I'm always surprised at the things people say when they think they are being cute but they are really being rude.

My great-grandma was full blooded Blackfoot Indian and my great-grandfather was white. My second son shows a lot of Indian and I got and still get comments asking what his ethnicity was………doesn’t help that my mom’s side also had Indian heritage. I like some of the replies here…..I am usually just embarrassed anyone would ask and don’t know how to respond. I stopped going to my hair dresser because she asked who the daddy was.

mom'sfolly :

Human genetics for skin, hair and eye color are complicated. Far too many kids get told by ignorant teachers that blue-eyed parents can't have brown-eyed children. Utter hogwash, and it hurts kids.

Or that Brown Eyed parents can't have Blue eyed kids becouse of coments like this My ex made me and our son get a paternity test I was ferouis that my baby had to go throu this but I laught my @#$ off couse my ex had to pay when the test came back that our son was his DUH

Both my ex and I are brown eyes and hair our son was blonde and blue eyed he did think about the fact that his father and sister are blonde and green eyed and that my father had blonde hair as a child and has blue eyes people are rude just dont pay any attenchion to them I just tell my kids now are gennetic wonderful and we have a blended familiy His mine and ours all blondeish hair and all blue eyes people now say the kids all look alike;) couldnt tell half from full or step

So glad it's not just ME! She's funny, her eyes are really dark, and her hair and skin are kind of a golden brown, hugely different from my peaches and cream other daughter and my freckled blue eyed son... i'll try to hunt up a picture of her wearing white... when it's ridiculously obvious how far from white her skin is. She's beautiful, but up here in rural vt, where 99% of the population is white, she stands out a lot.

I was going to ask how ethnic is your area. I didn't want to be rude. But we have a rainbow down here and I love it!!!

one of my best friends has a mother who is pure Blackfoot too, and she inherited her mother's beautiful colouring (though it does seem a bit odd with her Welsh accent to people who don't know her... never was an issue when we growing up together, I didn't even really realise there was a difference until we got to secondary school at about 11 and 12 years old and she got some racist hassles)

but her son has his father's colouring - most of his childhood he was very blonde and he has blue eyes etc.

when we were out together a lot of people assumed he was my child not hers.

Eye color genes are more complicated than blue and brown. If only a single pair of genes were involved there would be only two human eye colors. Many of the genes are additive, or influence other genes. Some people have clear golden brown eyes, some dark brown, some muddy greenish brown, obviously they are not all the same with the same genetics. The same with blue eyes, everything from pale to navy blue is out there.

This chart is interesting:
