My little ones are (more or less) 10 days today, and I thought I'd share some pictures of them! They are my first chickens ever so I'm still in awe of how adorable they are.. I'm sure you guys are more used to the cuteness of chicks (if it's even possible to get used to that
).
As soon as I sit down in their brooder they all pile up in my lap to take a snooze which is hands down my favorite part of the day.
I mean... how could it not be?
(although it's a real struggle to find a comfortable sleeping position when there's always one that's uncomfortable and walks all over the others in search of a better spot. And then someone else gets uncomfortable and ooon it goes)
I've also been trying a few chick sexing methods which have all come out with different results so I'm not putting my trust in any of them.. But I read somewhere that the comb is the most reliable form of sexing (most reliable among unreliable methods..
), and someone had shared a picture of a baby chick and gotten the reply that "if your chick has a comb that early it's a cockerel". Or something along those lines. Which made me wonder, cause two of my chicks have prominent combs while the others don't.
I mean this chick had a pretty decent comb before it was even one day old:
This is the other one (today):
Anyone know if this is indeed a reliable method or am I wasting my time even speculating this early..? (which I'm assuming I am..
)
A few days ago it was their first time exploring the outdoors, the grass felt a bit funny under their little feet so they thought they might keep close to the walls in the beginning.
But they are getting bigger and bigger! And so damn hard to get good photos of since they don't know how to be still!
As you can see, those two are the ones easiest to get photos of just because they find my phone _very_ intriguing. The other three I basically have to wait until they fall asleep to get pictures of...
