She flew off, but not right away. She held one foot up and picked at it a little, then set it back down. I was able to pick her up and put her feet under the faucet. Once they had cooled she relaxed and let me hold her there. She finally wanted down so I set her down. She seems fine. I filled the dogs' dish for her to stand in, but she wasn't interested. Tonight, she's not roosting with the other turkeys on the bigger roost, but is with some chickens on a piece of ply wood that is on its edge. What do I need to watch for? Her foot looked ok to me, no blistering or anything. Is the skin on their feet pretty tough?

I'd watch for limping. blistering...etc..bc it can get infected quick being on the ground and getting dirty..but their feet are pretty tough...Hope she will be ok

Is so ironic that you posted this, as we have this worry every time we light the bbq (at least twice a week). Our two BBs are quite curious about it. We joke with them that they will be visiting the coals first hand soon enough, but now that I've read your post I will be more vigilant at keeping them at a safe distance.

We really don't have any plans for eating them as they are pets, but if they make the bbq decision for themselves we may have no choice but to follow along with the cranberry sauce.

I hope your bird recovers.

She seems ok today, although I had to lift her off the roost. (It may have just been too early) She's walking fine. I haven't been able to look at her feet because I can't hold her and look at the same time. Darn bifocals...

DH will look with me tomorrow. I hope she isn't foretelling her future. She's been kind of a pampered thing as she has a bad eye and slight cross beak so she has become our pet. (shhh, don't tell DH)
