We have been treating ducky for a niacin deficiency with high level vitamin b complex for a little over a week. I've noticed his eye look a little strange the last few days but today it had white foam coming out...what could be going on and how can I treat him?

Now that I am paying closer attention he does seem congested, but it could just be me overreacting.

I’d bring him inside so you can watch him carefully for the rest of the day and tomorrow. Make sure he can dunk his head to clean his eyes out. If you hear congestion of drainage from eyes or nares then maybe a antibiotic would be warranted. Antibiotics are good when we need them but they also kill good bacteria in the gut so we have to be careful we don’t jump on an antibiotic when not needed.

Thank you! He actually hasn't made it outside yet, weve kept him inside while treating for niacin deficiency

"Pain and discomfort in the legs of niacin deficient birds is quite common so letting them relive the weight off their legs may help significantly during treatment, also birds that sit around most of the day aren't able to able to practice hygiene and are going to be more likely to end up with other problems like wet feather, foamy eye, bumblefoot, or external parasites, letting them in the water may help to prevent most of these problems for occurring.

When doing water therapy, given that the duck's leg are most likely weak, they should be watched the whole time they are in the water to ensure they don't drown."

I fill my bathtub with room temperature water once a day and let him swim until hes ready to get out (he let's me know by trying to climb out himself, haha) I have a 1 gallon wateter in the box, but not a bowl deep enough to dunk his whole head. I am hoping this is just an eye issue and nothing respiratory, poor baby has been through so much in these short 6 weeks 😥
