I have never known any Jewish person to eat any meat from an animal with cloven hooves. And I know ALOT of Jewish people.

However. Here's the rub. Not everyone understands Jewish law and if you did not put something in writing for your childs file and have a conversation with the teacher, there is really not much you can do except be proactive about it happening in the future.

Goat or sheep? I think you have it backwards they can only eat an animal with cloven hooves that chew a cud. Traditionally

Debi, they CAN eat goats, sheep, etc. Think about the old testament and what animals God wants them to sacrifice, and eat. Sheep and goats are primary!

Remember that wikipedia is written by people and people are people and don't know everything. My closest friend on this planet for the past 30 years is unorthodox Jewish.

PS - See FB post - I think I explained it clearly there.

See this discussion kinda proves the whole point. Most people will not really understand your religious requirements unless you explain it to them. There are so many variables and there is just no telling what his or her experiences are. Just inform them in a calm way and i would back that up in writing in your childs file for future reference to avoid this happening again.

I think that the school should have sent a notice to parents saying that a celebration was going to take place, and that food was going to be served for that occasion, because what if some students were allergic to some of the foods that were being served?
or like in the OP's situation?
