My 7 week old pullet squatted for me, and did the "shake" !

Has anyone ever had this happen? I have always gone by the rule that they will lay their first egg within a week of squatting- while is she so friendly and squatting for me at 7 weeks??!!!

Picture? Are you sure it’s an actual squat? If it is, it may just be a submitting squat

If your chicken is a more submissive breed, it’s most likely a submissive squat. My polish squatted for me for a few months before actually laying. I could tell she was going to lay because she kept going to the laying box to look around and occasionally sit down

no, no its a squat, with the full shake after to get the sperm in the right spot.

I don't go by that rule. I once saw a 13 week old pullet squat for a 13 week old cockerel, the full mating act including the fluffy shake. It was two full months before any pullets in that group laid an egg.

You can have all the rules you want but good luck convincing your chickens to obey them. Mine sure don't.

My 4 week old chick just did a squat walk yesterday a few minutes after a dust bath. I’m a first time chicken mom so I had no idea what she was doing! I’m glad I found some threads on this so I know nothings wrong with her. She is a Colombian Rock X if that is a “submissive” variety. I have no idea.
