My 7 week old Silkie Crowed!

Neither did I. Mine are around this age. Haven't noticed any crowing. Maybe all pullets!
These are my first chickens, and I had read an average of 5 months for the first crow. So boy was I surprised!
I found a thread on here from someone that had one rooster crow at 5 weeks and it's own brother didn't do it's first one until 5 or 6 months if you can believe it

I can believe it. Silkies seem to take extreme joy and bucking all chicken trends.

So what made you think at 1 week that it was a roo? Mine is a week old right now and I have been agonizing over not knowing. Lol
I'm sure it as mostly a lucky guess but he just seemed different from the start. He was really friendly. The two roosters were really easy to pick up and would walk right up to me where as the girls ran from me and were much more skittish. His tail, wings and crest were REALLY slow to feather. Way behind the others. And he stood like a rooster, really straight up from the start. His wattles came in at 5 weeks and none of the others even had a hint of wattles. (That's the blue silkie)
The satin splash was also really bold and inquisitive and I was suspect of his HUGE foot feathers. Significantly more than the rest. Gis foot feathers were not only larger, but harder. By 5 weeks I felt really sure about him being a rooster from his behavior, body shape and tail shape. I'll show you a comparison. Both roos had little combs starting to bubble up by week 5 while the other twos beaks still indent.
So that's how I came to my conclusions however I'm still a complete beginner. I just did a lot of reading and a lot of observing. The pics I marked "P" for pullet is of course not confirmed because she's still too young, it's just my guess and comparing these two is how I made my roo guess.

Ok I was ready with my camera this morning and I was able to catch some good ones... but from the satin splash! I was guessing this one was a cockerel as well. Let's just hope I was able to guess the pullets right too :fl
They're so cute when they're learning to crow. Little guys are really putting giving it their all.
The satin splash probably heard his brother and was like, "Bah, I could do better."
It'll be really cute to see if they start having crowing competitions when they're so little. 😂

That's exactly what I was thinking lol! I feel like little blue was so bummed about it. You'll get there little guy 😂
That will be so funny. They've been challenging eachother a lot, I wouldn't be surprised to see that turn into a competition too

It's really a crap shoot with roos I think. I had one that started trying at 3 weeks but his hatchmate waited so long I was waiting for egg or crow.
