I used a free plan to construct my coop and run. I've found it to be very functional for a backyard set up in an in-town city neighborhood. (I have about 3/4 acre backing up to woods.) I have six pullets in residence, and that's about all I want at the moment.

A larger alternative to the A-frame tractor...

Here are a few new interior pictures for those who asked about them:

The roost is a 3" wooden curtain rod (dowel) set in two metal closet brackets. Pretty sturdy. It looks close to the wall, but it's actually about 12" away.

Me and a few of the girls. They love their coop!

OH, forgot. I need to add an "air lock" feature to the back where the wooden door is because I had a hen dash out one day and a hawk snatched her up right in front of me. Guess she was sitting there waiting patiently...

What would work best? I've been thinking about sinking a post about 15 ft away and attaching a wire clothes line to it and another to the top of the house, then draping some net over it and staking to the ground in a tent style... But then how would I get inside?

Here is the back of the coop:

Other pictures are on my BYC page.

I have about 8 inches of chick wire to step over to go in my pen. Its a pain in the backside sometimes, but it has saved me from chicken-chasing on more than one occasion.

Thanks! It was really nice to have a project with my father, despite our disagreement about the nest box... Do I look smug in the picture of finished box!? LOL! Once he came to the realization that I knew what I wanted and had looked at thousands of pictures on this site and others, he didn't try to control the whole project. He actually treated me like a partner rather than an assistant! That was worth the whole thing.

I will add that I couldn't have built it without him. He is a retired builder, so had a different level of perfection than I would have on my own. (Except in the case of the nest box!)

I'll see if hubby will get some inside shots. He was the photographer. Also need some updated pictures of the girls. They are getting much bigger!
