Wow, I would build a outside run anyway. It doesnt mean you have to let them out in the winter. Most of my birds, if they see snow, they do not go out anyway so I lock them inside for most the winter and I do not have near the amount of snow you do.

I would think that's too many birds for such a small coop... but, it might help to have that many for warmth in the winter.

We have an outside run, but we dont get the same ammount of snow fall you do. Our run is plain old chicken wire, any snow that doesnt fall right through it can be shook of when bumped with a snow shovel. During winter months we place saw horses inside the run with plywood on top to creat some covered areas so they can get out to stretch and scratch.

With the bears nearby, what are you going to do for extra security? Can you run electric fence?

Thanks for sharing the extra pics of your snowfall and the bears! I think the bears are beautiful but am definately glad I do not have to worry about that kind of preditor!
Good luck finding homes for your "extras". Maybe you should just build another coop and keep them!!

The bears tend to steer clear of this subdivision, although we've had more than our share this year... I think it's because of late salmon runs but any way...
The electric fence is an option, I was thinking about picking one up at the feed store. Our german shepherd has kept bears and other two legged trespassers at bay in years past but I'm minus a canine right now.

AK Bird Brain: That's a good idea, we've been trying to think of a deep snow run idea, haven't decided on one yet.

I think your coop is amazing! it looks fantastic and I am sure your gilrs will love it. I could not believe the amount of snow you have over there, I thought winters where bad enough in England with the amount of rain we have! But have to admit I could not cope with that amount of snow.......the picture of the bears is fabulous.

Once again very well done on a job well done your coop is 10/10 A**** and I am jealous!
