She is close to 1 year old, and didn't start laying eggs until late Feb. All was fine until a month ago. I see her sitting on the nest box, but she doesn't lay an egg. At night, I massage her belly, and can feel the egg. Twice she has laid a fully formed egg with an extra membrane around it and attached to a shell-less egg. Not sure if I should try to get the egg out of her (!) or just leave her alone. She is eating, hops on my shoulder in the morning for treats, seems to be normal, but I can feel that egg! It's been at least a week now.
What should I do? Aside from making sure she has access to food & water.
Thanks

How's your girl doing? Did she lay the stuck egg, or has she laid anything at all? Could you feel an egg still inside her after she had laid one of those extra membrane eggs you described? If there is an egg still stuck in her, it's a serious matter. Some eggbound hens will act normal right up until they die, so you can't always go by that. If you're sure that she has a stuck egg inside her, you should try a soak in very warm (but not hot) water for 20 or 30 minutes, the water up to, but not over, her back. Sometimes this will relax her insides enough to pass the egg. It may take more than one try to do the trick. Be sure to keep her head up out of the water, they relax so much they kinda go limp. Are any of the eggs she's laying flat on one side, or have any flattened area on them? If so, they are most likely going around the stuck egg, and that's really hard on the hen and dangerous for her. I know that seems impossible, but I have personal experience with that happening, and it's not good. Do you have access to an avian vet? If the egg has been stuck for over a week, there's a small possibility that it's cemented to the shell gland and in that case, a vet would be your best bet, but don't let them sedate her unless it's absolutely necessary. I hope your girl is ok, please give us an update.
